Welcome to Mrs. Ruocco's 4th Grade Web Page!
Happy New Year!
We're back to school and it's time to think about winter fun outside!!! Please remind your child to pack up snowpants and boots for recess. Being stuck on the blacktop isn't quite as much fun! :)
Math News: We just finished a pretty intense unit on decimals and are now moving ahead to multiplication. Keep practicing math facts, fourth graders--not only do you need them for the Friday fact test, but also for our double digit multiplication algorithms that are fast approaching!
Reading and Language Arts: We continue with Theme 3 in our anthology. Guided reading groups are going strong as students work with anticipation guides, storyboards, and other graphic organizers to enhance comprehension techniques. Our focus in writing will be using Empowering Writers to fine tune each area of the narrative writing diamond, so that we are experts by the time CMTs roll around in March. Students are also becoming more adept at critical stance writing responses, using rubrics to assist them in achieving their highest potential.
Science: Our first science rotation is electricity. Students have learned how to make series and parallel circuits with 2 bulbs and two batteries, through the use of scientific inquiry. Soon each group will decide on an inquiry investigation and present it to the class. Students are enjoying the hands on exploration and use of self-discovery. :) Our next science rotation will begin in late January.
Social Studies: Every day students will become acquainted with maps and globes through the use of Daily Geography questions. There will also be various projects that align with our anthology stories. Currently, students are working on a state shining star through research in computer lab.
CMT's are looming on the horizon and will be a focus point during the next two months. No worries--we'll be all set by the time March is here!
HAPPY 2008!!!
