PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA NIGHTLY TO VERIFY HOMEWORK AND REVIEW THE COMPLETED ASSIGNMENTS

CMT -Push!!!

Reading - Students are doing activities centered on developing and polishing reading skills and making connections to the text.

Please encourage your child to learn at least two vocabulary words a week (in addition to what they learn in school).

NIGHTLY HOMEWORK -BOOKMARKS

Each night students are required to do 30 minutes of independent reading (using their own novels).  Reading done during the school day (within classes) does not count towards bookmarks.  Students can use their own books or those borrowed from a library.  Magazines or newspapers are not acceptable to use for bookmarks.  Bookmarks are photocopied worksheets with spaces to write daily entries/summaries.  Students are provided copies of the bookmark sheets.  If the bookmark is lost, neat lined writing paper is acceptable.  Each bookmark entry, which is worth 100 points, is at least 8-10 sentences long.  On the same sheet there is a space for students to write about a conflict or question based on the reading.  At the bottom of the bookmark there is a space for context vocabulary. Students are to write down any word they don’t know and tell what they think it means based on the way it is used in the sentence (context).

Students are given the bookmarks on the previous Friday or at the beginning of each week on Monday.  They are required to do four days (Monday – Thursday).  Students may choose to do Friday or an additional 30 minutes of reading and log it in for extra credit points for that bookmark.  Students can do extra credit days on a separate (neat) notebook paper.  Bookmarks are due on Friday, unless there is a holiday (or no school).  In that case, the bookmark will either be due on Thursday or Monday.  Students will be given specific directions in those instances.  The procedure for writing bookmarks is being reviewed for several days in class between February 3-11th..  A sample bookmark has been given to students and attached to the original parent letter sent home on February 3rd. Please sign off on your child's bookmark every Thursday to ensure its quality and completeness.
