Welcome to Mrs. Bieber's Artnotes

Let's Start with Modern Design!

Students of Modern Design have just finished their first product design, which was a wallet made from the new popular material...Duct Tape!! They created prototypes from paper, masking tape and then forged ahead to produce the "real deal" with brightly colored, or not, Duct Tape!! FABULOUS!!!

All will be on view at our Art Exhibit held on June 4th.

Their next and final product will be the creation of a shoe, just like designers create them...from scratch!! They will draw, design a pattern based on historical styles, and then produce their life-size design using paper mache, acrylic paints and a variety of hand selected extras. These, too, will be on display at our exhibit. Watch for the pictures of their progression on this site!

Something for the men!!

Eighth Grade Artist's Studio

Students have been hard at work learning how to create three dimensional drawings simply by using values (light, medium and dark) with a variety of graphite pencils. Next, they moved to color, quite a different study to be sure! Their first experience was in practicing the techniques of colored pencil, which required that they
layer more than one color to produce the desired affect. Their assignment was to use colored pencil to create a portrait of a magazine photograph. Very tricky!
Now, they are moving on to yet another media. They have been experimenting with acrylic paints in prepartation for their landscape painting. Wait until you see them!!!

This VanGogh example is important to see quite large so that you can appreciate the amount of paint used and so that the technique of his brush stoke work can be better appreciated. Of course, it's always best to see art "up close and personal"!
Painting is not an exact science, but one that can capture one's heart if only we could have more time to experience creating it!!! ...sbieber

CLAY

Clay students have been learning how to build a standard slab box,but then alter it by paddling it into a rounded form. The surface decoration was an exploration of the wax and glaze technique.
Next, students will use a slump mold to create a large bowl. Their surface decoration will now ask them to use all techniques learned to create a geometric design with a minimum of color. Students always create master drawings and then proceed to translate their ideas into functional clay forms.

ANIMATION

Seventh grade Animation students have created early motion toys in order to learn about stop action film-making and to aquaint them with the beginning history of making films. In addition, they have learned how our brains work to connect images as in flip-books, zoetropes and thaumatropes. This ability to connect two different images to see linear movement is called "persistency of vision".
These students are now equipped to move forward to create their own stop-action film. Working in cooperative groups, they will produce a 40second film using cut paper to create a face story with changing emotions.
