March
Happy Spring! We are learning about the states in the Southeast region. We have been talking about the geography, resources and economy of the Southeast. We will continue our tour of the United States of America with our next stop in the Midwest. In science we are studying chemistry and are learning about matter and reactions. We will be doing some experiments in class and some at home as well. We continue to practice our multiplication facts so that we can get faster. I will also post links to other websites relating to our units of study. Finally, each week I will post a question at the bottom of the page. By answering the Dumbledore Dollar question, you can earn one.
Spelling
We will be adopting a new program throughout the district this year. This new program is called Rebecca Sitton. It is very different from other programs the students have seen in the past. The emphasis is on everyday spelling rather than Friday spelling tests.
Reading
This year we will be reading Riding Freedom, Stone Fox, and Number the Stars. In addition, we will read some other fourth grade novels in literature circles.
Writing
We will begin the year by working on narrative writing and we will end the year learning expository writing. In between, we will try other forms of writing such as poetry and letter writing.
Math
This year in math we will review some of the concepts we have learned before but we will also learn some new exciting topics such as; long division, multidigit multiplication, and scientific notation.
Science
In science we will study plants, rocks and minerals, chemical reactions, and simple machines.
Social Studies
In social studies we will study explorers, Connecticut, and states and regions.
