Mrs. M's Rocking Third Grade
Third grade is off to a terrific start this year. The month of September has been very exciting. We're learning and sharing so much with our classmates and friends.
Our mornings always start with our Class Meeting We're getting to know one another, our routine, and Mrs. M's expectations for us as third graders. It's also a time for games and jokes and a bit of fun to start the day.
Our math is a continuation of the EveryDay Math we had in first and second grades. We sometimes surprise ourselves with what great thinkers we've become. Mrs. M is impressed!
Social studies is focusing on Colonial America. Most of us are very happy to be children today. Can you imagine, no TV or video games? Wow! Did those youngsters have to work hard.
In science we will be exploring our Sink or Float unit. We're looking forward to and expecting a bit of wet fun.
We're extremely excited about our new reading program. Many of us will be going to a different teacher for our reading instruction. We feel very grown-up about the whole process.
Our writing year has started with poetry. We have done a marvelous job and would like to end this page by sharing some of our poems with you.
Light and Dark
by Tim F.
At the end of the day
light hides
then
darkness comes out.
It's like hide and seek.
Light always hides
at the end of the
day.
Darkness never finds light
until morning
then
they switch.
Deserted Ballroom
by Ritik
Far off in the valley the
deserted ballroom
stands alone.
It once was a
beautiful place.
Princes and princesses
use to dance there.
But now, no one goes there
anymore.
It is forgotten.
The crumbly ballroom
is empty.
There are only ghostly
moans.
But, in the twilight a
couple comes
to dance.
A Hunting Accident
by Devin M.
The Native American
fires.
He misses the skunk.
The skunk lifts
his tail.
Get out the
tomato juice.
Pencils
by Emily Y.
Hard and pointy
wooden with lead
erasable
skinny yellow
getting
smaller
smaller
smaller
GONE!
