Discussion Points!

"Discussion Points" is a series of questions or topics that you and your child can use to extend learning and promote communication skills.  The featured questions and/or topics directly relate to what your child is learning in school.  Use these ideas to encourage your child to express his or her learning and even take that learning a step further!  After some "Discussion Points," you may see suggested activities or websites to visit. ***It is suggested that you visit websites with adult supervision. Have fun learning from and with your child!

1. What facts have you learned about the Statue of Liberty?  Where is it located?  What country made it for us?

2.  Mount Rushmore is located in the state of South Dakota! It was built to honor four important Presidents and how they helped our great country!  Who are the four Presidents that appear on Mount Rushmore? 

Suggested Activity: After discussing Mount Rushmore and the Presidents that are featured on Mount Rushmore, visit the website below to play a "Mount Rushmore" puzzle!

3.  What is an adjective?  How can adjectives help "jazz up" your writing?

Suggested Activity: Search through several books at home.  Become a "word detective" and find interesting adjectives.  Make a list of these words to use in stories that you write at home!

4.  In math, students have been practicing measuring in inches. 

Suggested Activity: Make a book where you draw pictures of objects in your house that you could practice measuring those objects in inches.
