8th Grade Science week 1 qrt 1

8/26 Hand out books safety forms, learning objective *safety comes first, *become familiar with classroom procedures & rules, * recognize importance of staying on task and following procedures homework , h1 cover books get safety forms signed.

8/27 What Not to Do Laboratory hndt, learning objective, apply common sense to situations that could possibly lead to serios injury of yourself or others, homework, h2 Safety in the Science Classroom hndt, questions must be answered in complete sentences for full credit.

8/28 Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) ammonium chloride hndt, course criteria hndt. learning objective, become familiar with the format and information common to all MSDS sheets and how to act and report situations in the appropriate manner. homework h3 pg 10-18 read & take notes, pg 18 ques 1-3, questions must be answered in complete sentences for full credit, course criteria signed and returned by 9/5.

8/29 Lab Safety Awareness Video, learning objective, become familiar with a real classroom situation that involves not only your safety awareness and attitude toward safety but every one else's perception of the situation. homework h4 no homework over the holiday weekend.

9/2  Laboratory Safety Sheets hndt, Applying Scientific Method hndt, review for safety quiz, learning objective, become familiar with appropriate science vocabulary for safety procedures and equipment in a science lab, familiarize students with steps in the scientific method and how that applies to the laboratory experiments they will perform in grad 8 science class. homework h 5 study for safety quiz tommorow

9/3 Safety Quiz, Nature of Science, Chap 1 Vocabulary, What is Science hndt, learning objective, concluding lesson on lab safety with written assessment, become familiar with concepts and vocabulary as it applies to the scientific method. homework h 6 pg 18-25 read & take notes, work sheet 1-1 hndt

9/4 The Scientific Method/Steps to a Successful Experiment hndt, school pictures, to the auditorium, learning objective , students will understand how the steps in the scientific method are interconnected and that careful formulation of the problem statement and hypothesis sets the stage for the remainder of the experiment and write-up, homework h7 Going One Step Further/A Scientific Method Hunt hndt

9/5 Applying The Scientific Method hndt, Mobius Circle Lab, learning objective, students obtain first hand experience with applying the scientific method write-up to an experiment that are performing that requires a prediction and then drawing a conclusion, homework h 8 Complete the lab write-up.
