WRITER'S WORKSHOP

THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO SAY IT THAN THROUGH WRITER'S WORKSHOP!
WORK ON "DISCOVER YOURSELF IN SIXTH GRADE".....YOUR THIS I BELIEVE ESSAY IS DUE MAY 15TH.  WE WILL BE RECORDING YOUR WORDS FOUR OUR PRESENTATION UNTIL EVERYONE HAS SHARED

Writer's Workshop is a creative way for you to express your thoughts in writing. YOU are the author, YOU are in control of your writing.

This year our focus in writer's workshop will be to write about your favorite topic...YOU! You can write about events that shaped your life, ideas and feelings you have that you would like to share, or essays about your favorite people, places or things. We will be writing in many different genres, and you will need to make choices about your writing style and tone, as well as topic. It is all about your choice and your decisions.

I will give you all kinds of tips and instruction about how to write in different genres, such as memoir, non-fiction, letter, snapshot, historical fiction or fantasy. For each writers' workshop we will have one class goal that I will set for you, and one personal goal that you will set for yourself. In this way you can really take charge of your learning.

In order to help you with your writing, you will need to follow the writing process. The writing process includes the following parts in the order shown below:

PLANNING
DRAFTING
REVISION
EDITING
PUBLISHING
When you hand in your final piece of writing, you need to include the following items:

1. Prewriting Thinksheet
(this is any type of planning organizer)
2. All of your drafts,
(including all your revision and editing notes)
3. Your peer conference sheets, if any

If you do not hand in any part of your writing packet as shown above, points will be deducted from your final grade. The number of points deducted will depend upon what and how much is missing. If you have repeatedly failed to hand in the above work on more than one Writer's Workshop assignment, you will receive additional point deductions.

You will have full period classes to work on your writing in class. You will also have time for conferencing with me, and with your peer conference group.

Periodically we will share writing with the whole class, in small groups or in pairs.

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GREAT WRITING FROM ALL OF YOU!
