DAILY SCHEDULE
Monday
Full Period

During the full period on Monday we will be working on Reading.  Every 5 weeks or so we will begin a new unit of interest.  Our reading will include short stories, novels of many genres, poetry and non-fiction.  On Mondays we will work on reading strategies, such as connecting, questioning, predicting, visualizing, summarizing and more.  We will also spend time responding to the wonderful literature we read.  During some of our reading instruction the entire class will be reading the same book.  At other times, students will choose from a variety of books and discuss the books with other students in literature circles.  You can find more specific information about our current unit of study by clicking on the link below entitled "current reading".

The writer's workshop incorporates the entire writing process including planning, drafting, revising, editing and publishing. Students will learn how to plan and organize their writing. They will learn numerous ways to make their writing more elaborate. They will become adept at revising their writing and editing for mechanical errors. We will have mini lessons during these writing sessions to address common writing problems such as the correct use of dialogue punctuation or how to write an attention-grabbing first line.
1/2 Period
During the Tuesday 1/2 period class we will be practicing strategies and skills in our writer's notebook.>

Friday
Full Period
During the full period on Fridays we have endless possibilities.  This is the day we bring it all together in an interesting activity.  We may do skits, readers' theater, group activities, interpretive drawings,  or musical connections.  We create, connect, reflect and respond to everything we have been learning.
1/2 Period
The Friday 1/2 period is assessment day.  Every other week there is a vocabulary/spelling quiz. When there is no quiz, there are classroom assessments to insure that students are learning all the concepts I have presented throughout the week.
