Welcome to Team 7A

It's been a pleasure meeting your children and I'm looking forward to getting to know each child better throughout this school year.

We will study authors biographies as well as enjoy some of their writings. Among these authors will be Gary Soto, Edgar Allen Poe, Wilson Rawls, and Mildred Taylor. Our projects will include your child studying the life and accomplishments of a famous person, researching family history, and reporting on independent reading choices (ie-book reports). All of our studies will incorporate CMT practices. Your child will be asked to challenge themselves. For example every child is to read a minimum of 20 minutes every night and increase this time throughout the year. I have challenged all my students to read 4 books each month. Every student should arrive to class with an SIR book every day .

A course guideline sheet has been sent home for review and your signature. Please review this with your child and return it to me by September 5. Should you have any questions regarding your child's assignments or school experience, please feel free to contact me through the school office.

RENZULLI PILOT PROGRAM

Team 7A will be piloting the Renzulli Learning Center program. This program has been developed by UConn and is designed to address student's individual learning styles. The students will begin their survey portion of the Renzulli program later this month. This is a computer based program and students must have their technology use consent form on file before they can participate. Please be sure to get your signed /approved form in by September 5th so your child may begin the progarm with us.

Team 7A will be working on a year long project that researches each students family history. It is an exciting project that the students have greatly enjoyed in the past and we're looking forward to sharing this experience with your child too. Details will be shared with your child in the upcoming weeks and an overview will be shared with our 7A parents at open house on September 16th. This is an opportunity for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, extended families to help your child with their research on their family culture, traditions and heritage. Our Family History Museum Project will be well under way by Thanksgiving. Please ask your child for the latest update as we get closer to November.
