The last of our first book reviews should have been handed in on October 15th.
Weekly tests have begun. We will alternate weeks for vocabulary and spelling tests. Every Thursday student's bookmarks should be signed to show that they have read 20 minutes each night. On Thursdays students should also have their planner signed. This gives you an opportunity to see your child's planner and stay up to date on what they are doing in school.
Illing is using PBS (Positive Behavior System) as a guide for expections to be successful. We refer to these expectations as the Illing I's. Each student should be saying "I am responsible. I am safe. I am kind. I am respectful" everywhere they are in the school. When following school rules your child has opportunities to earn shillings which can periodically be cashed in for something special.
We have begun the year by reviewing open-ended question goals, persuasive writing (focusing on the introductory paragraph), and reading comprehension.
We are reading the novel,Acorn People,by Ron Jones. Ask your child about the theme of this book. We are recognizing the differences between summarizing, retelling, and open-ended answers. The new vocabulary from this novel is being used in our writing.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at any time. Illing's phone number is 647-3400. You can also contact Mrs. Peters in Guidance at 647-3418.
FYI - There will be a Can and Bottle drive at Illing on November 7th.
The Go Green Club is collecting pet toys, stuffed animals, and used blankets which will be donated to a local shelter in Manchester.
Any donations you can make will be greatly appreciated.
