Well, here we are in the last days of third grade! We always say how fast the year seemed to go by and while we all look forward to warmer weather and even summer vacation, teachers are all realizing that there is still much to be done and I’m thinking of how much I’ll miss this class when they move on as fourth graders.
Here’s a look at what’s left to do:
Math: We are done with the first 7 chapters and will begin chapter 8 on fractions. We’ll still continue our monthly timed tests, so keep at the triangles.
Cursive: We are so close to the end of the all the letters. I know you are all anxious to write anything and everything and some of you are excited about getting to the letter you need for your name.
Social Studies: The last weeks in April we will finish our sturdy of Japan and The Big Wave that you all are really enjoying. www.stormfront.org Then we’ll have May and June to study China with all the literature books that go with that unit. So many of you love pandas and you’ll be happy to know you’ll be able to learn more about them.www.motherjones.com
Science and Nature: What great weather to get outdoors and enjoy the lessons we still have in our Nature Journals and some of them we can do with our first grade buddies. The new unit Animal Adaptations is ready, all 14 lessons, and I am sure you’ll love all the new information and studies we’ll be talking about. Also included, will be another 8 lessons called Soggy Paper where you’ll be scientists conducting experiments.
Logs: Getting close to the end of the year means an end to Logs too. On April 25th, parents who have been reading Lost On A Mountain in Maine, will come in to join in the final Literature Circle with their child. Children who have been reading Tall Tales will share the Tall Tale they have written with the class. After that, we have only one more month of Logs and the theme will be mysteries. Many of the children have put lots of effort into each month’s work and have read so many good books and been exposed to so many new genres and I am proud of them.
Well, all that sounds like a lot to do, and it is, but we also have lots of fun activities ahead as well. The week we return from April vacation, we’ll get to enjoy all the books that were written for YARC by pleasure reading in the front hallway. In May, we will go to Lincoln Theater to see the King Tut play, hear Motoko tell us stories of Asia just like Eshu told us stories of Africa, and see Hopewell’s Spring Concert. The last week in May has two huge fun filled days: May 28th is Field Day, a day we all look forward to and May 30th the one and only Hopewell Fun Fair!! I hope you’ll all stop by for fun and rides and come to see me in the Food Booth for a hotdog, hamburger, or slice of pizza for your supper! Last but not least, on June 5th, we’ll have Nature Day. It will be a whole day outside with all nature study activities along with a grilled hotdog lunch.
So, fasten your seat belts as we go Poulin Pace through the last 40 days of third grade!
