I've been enjoying taking a math course at UCONN this summer and relaxing at the Cape. I also went for a hike in Maine.
I thought it might be fun to give you some math challanges related to my trip to Maine. Email me your answers. Don't forget to put your name, grade (for next year) and teacher.
We had to get to the park at 5 am to get a parking spot. They let us in and we drove for about 45 minutes just to get to the parking lot (it was a winding, dirt road). Then it took us 9 hours to hike up the mountain and back down. It took another 45 minutes to drive out of the park. What time was it when we drove through the gate of the park on our way out?
We drove about 65 miles per hour on the way up to Maine. We had to drive about 550 miles. How long did it take us to get to Maine?
While climbing the mountain we were lucky enough to see a moose on the trail. He seemed to be enjoying climbing the mountain too. He hiked up the trail ahead of us for some time before walking into the woods to get a snack (he ate leaves). A while later we saw another moose on the side of the trail eating. On our way down we saw one last moose munching on the side of the trail. How many moose did we see that day? Challenge: If you take an average, how often did we see a moose that day? Answer in moose per hour(s) (HINT: You might need one of the answers from above)

JOURNEY NORTH TULIP PROJECT
We had 49 beautiful tulips emerge and bloom this spring. What a wonderful science experiment. It was interesting to see when all of the other plants emerged and bloomed around the country. I have put maps of the tulips on the PACE room door - located right near the front door of the school.
You can also see the maps on the website.
