SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community

Welcome to Room 23

This page is meant to keep parents and students up to date with what is happening in Room 23.

If you are visiting for the first time, please take a moment and register your email address.  Use the "Notify me" link at the top of this page to enter your email.

New Web Portal

Glastonbury is using a new web portal.  My new web page is located at

https://www.glastonburyus.org/Staff/GRIFFINT/Pages/default.aspx

I will be using both pages until early fall.  Information on both sites is very similar.  More information will be following on the use of the sites.

Please use the "notify me" link on schoolnotes.com, to register your email, as my new site does not have this capability yet.

Open House

On August 26th, I will be in my room from 8:45 to 10:45 to greet parents and students.  Due to a time conflict, this is a little earlier then other Nayaug teachers.  I hope you can stop by and visit.

School Supplies

Our class will be discussing our specific school supply needs during the first few days of school.  We will be utilizing certain supplies to help us stay organized.  To minimize any expenses, please do not purchase any new school supplies until we have discussed our needs.

All you need to start the school year off is a positive, can do attitude and a healthy snack.

Math

This year in math, we will be focusing on using the four operations fluently with whole numbers, decimals and fractions.  We will be practicing our problem solving skills and our geometric skills.  I hope you find math as fun as I do.

Great math site

Reading

This year our reading books will be filled with exciting adventures, wonderful characters and interesting plots.  Some of my favorite authors include: Sharon Creech, Jerry Spinelli, and Patricia Reilly Giff.  I hope you have been keeping up with your reading this summer.

Spelling

Our spelling program this year will integrate Rebecca Sitton's philosophy into our everyday life.

History

We will start our tour of US history with the explorers and Native Americans of our lands during the 1400 and 1500s.   We will then quickly move into the colonization of the New World, known today as The United States.

Science

This year we will study optics and sound, micro-organisms, mapping, astronomy and electricity.

Writing

Our focus in writing is to use a topic sentence and supportive details to create well written paragraphs.

We will also be exploring the use of evidence from the books we read to support our opinions.  Please remember, the more evidence from the book that is used to support your opinion, the more complete the answer.
