               Welcome to Second Grade!

Dear Parents,

Please check the web portal for November news.

Field Trips:

*Hartford Bus Tour  11/10   *(bag lunch)

*Play at the University Of Hartford  3/19  $8.00

We will need to collect the money now to purchase the tickets for the spring.

There may be additional trips later in the year.

Parent Volunteers:

This year parent volunteers are needed for field trips, science theme days and math game days.  There will not be a monthly volunteer calendar.  Everyone who has signed up on the list will have an opportunity to help during the year.

Reading Logs:

I have asked the children to choose books for their reading homework that are not too easy or too hard.  Choosing a book that is "just right" helps to build comprehension and fluency.  Below are some guidelines for choosing a "just right" book that we have talked about in class.

1.  As you read, hold up a finger if you don't know how to say a word.  If you get to five fingers by the end of the first page, you should choose another book.

2.  You can read the words smoothly with just a few bumps.

3.  You can understand most of the story.

Important Reminders:

*Purple homework folders need to be returned to school everyday.

 Have a great month!

                                   Trish Berk
