As we look ahead to the upcoming school year, I'll offer a few suggestions for summer activities:
I encourage summer reading at home. In third grade we read a lot of chapter books and novels. It's always a good idea to review math skills that you learned in grade 2. Particular areas that need reinforcement for incoming third grade students are: counting money, measurement, subtraction with borrowing, telling time to the quarter hour, and calculating lapsed time.
We do a lot of written assignments in third grade, so be sure your printing is neatly done and the letters are accurately formed. Remember that g, j, p, and q are "hanging" letters and fall beneath the guide line.
Don't forget all the wonderful things that your grade 2 teachers taught you last year, especially with paragraph and story writing. We will be doing a lot of that this year too.
I can't wait to meet all of you very soon. Meanwhile enjoy the rest of the summer.
