Welcome to the Media Center website! The Media Center is the school's learning resource center. The library provides access to thousands of resources in print and online format.
Print Collection
We currently have approximately 14,000 volumes in our library. We are fully automated collection which means that all resources are barcoded and inventoried through a computerized system. This system allows our resources to be centrally located and accessible via an online catalog. All students and teachers can access this catalog from any computer in the school. This system allows quick and easy access to books!
Non-Print Collection
The library provides a Media collection (about 250 titles) which includes videos and DVDs for classroom use. We also have a small collection of about 70 Audiobook tapes and CDs. These audiobooks are especially helpful for struggling readers.
Online Resources
We also subscribe to several online databases: Grolier Online and United Streaming. Grolier provides online encyclopedias customized to meet the information needs of middle school students. United Streaming is a online resource that provides thousands of downloadable video clips to teachers which fit curriculum themes in all areas. The Connecticut Digital Library (www.iconn.org) is a free resource available to any Connecticut resident, and provides several online resources appropriate to the middle school level.
Other Services
The library also hosts the annual book fair in collaboration with the PTA, and assists students and teachers with research, book selection, and audiovisual tasks.
The library also coordinates the Virtual High School program. Twenty-five of our gifted and talented 8th graders participate in this program, taking online courses via the Internet.
