Estamos en junio
Grado 6 - Students are learning vocabulary referring to animals and will write a short story of an animal of their choice. The next assessment will cover the "Golden Questions" which are basic and practical questions that the student should know how to answer in Spanish.
Grado 7 - Students are learning vocabulary referring to vacation. Students are also learning the direct object pronouns. The next assessment will cover the direct object pronouns plus vocabulary on vacation. The following assessment will cover the "Golden Questions" which are practical questions that will be asked orally and which students need to answer in Spanish.
Grado 8 - Los estudiantes estan aprendiendo los objetos de complemento directo y el vocabulario de las vacaciones. El examen cubrira el vocabulario de las vacaciones y los objetos de complemento directo. El proximo examen cubrira las preguntas de oro (the golden questions) que son preguntas basicas y practicas para que el estudiante conteste oralmente en espanol.

Estamos en mayo
Grado 6 - During this Trimester students will learn about Mexico.
They will also be learning the grammar point tener + que + infinitive (to have to do something) so they can be able to express in Spanish what they have to do when referring to activities. The next assessment which will be the latter part of next week will cover both grammar points ir + a + infinitive (going to do something plus tener + que + infinitive (to have to do something).
Grado 7 - Students are learning the irregular verbs in the Preterit Tense and will have an assessment the latter part of next week.
Grado 8 - Los estudiantes estan leyendo lecturas sobre la inmigracion. En particular ellos estan leyendo sobre los puertorriquenos, cubanos y mexicanos. El examen sera la proxima semana.

Grado 6 - Students will be learning about Mexico during this Trimester. They will also be learning the grammar point "Ir +a+infinitive "(going to do something) so that they can be able to express in Spanish what they are going to be doing when referring to activities.
Grado 7 -Students will be learning regular er and ir verbs as well as irregulars in the Preterit Tense.

Estamos en marzo
Grado 6 - Students are reviewing vocabulary on la comunidad y la ciudad. The "Golden Questions" will be introduced.
Grado 7 - Students are working creating their "Catalogos de la Ropa".
Grado 8 - Los estudiantes van a buscar informacion sobre un pais de la America del Sur incluyendo la comida tradicional, la geografia, el deporte y sitios importantes e interesantes.

El 26 de enero
Grado 6 - Students will be working on La Casa and activities around the home. Students will be reviewing virtual tours of homes in Spain in preparation for their academic assessments on houses.
Grado 7 - Students will be working on creating authentic menus and writing dialogs for restaurant scenes.
Grado 8 - Los estudiantes estan repasando el preterito, el imperfecto y las diferencias entre los dos. Pronto habra un examen.

explore the country of Spain.
Grado 7 - Students will be introduced to stem changing verbs.

Grado 8 - Students are reviewing the Preterit Tense. Students
will work on a project relating to famous hispanic
people.

El 20 de octubre
Grado 6 - El tiempo - Students will explore Spanish speaking countries and the weather.
Grado 7 - La familia - Students will "visit" the Familia Real from Spain and learn family vocabulary.
Grado 8 - El cuerpo humano y verbos reflexivos. Los estudiantes van a aprender vocabulario sobre el cuerpo humano y aprender los verbos reflexivos.

Estamos en las ultimas semanas!
GRADO 6 - Los cuentos de los animales. Vamos a presentar los cuentos esta semana. Tambien vamos a practicar "Las preguntas de oro"
GRADO 7 - Vamos a viajar - airport vocabulary/travel vocabulary. Vocabulario para viajar - En el aeropuerto
GRADO 8 - Las Vacaciones - como preparar para unas vacaciones perfectas. Repaso de ir + a + infintive = el futuro
Tambien vamos a practicar "Las preguntas de oro"

YA ESTAMOS EN EL TERCER TRIMESTRE
19 de mayo-23 de mayo
GRADO 6 - Students will finish their children's stories about animals this week.
Verbs will also be practiced - SER/ESTAR/TENER and also AR, ER and IR verbs
GRADO 7 - Students will be reviewing the present progressive tense. Students will be presenting their power point slides on a celebration of their choice.
GRADO 8 - Students are exploring Hispanic culture. Picasso and Botero are two famous artists that students studied. Also, this week students will begin to explore traditional and modern Spanish music. Juanes, a famous singer from Colombia will be studied during class.
HOMEWORK this week which is due this Friday is to pick your favorite Hispanic music artist and bring in a song (CD or lyrics) and or write a brief summary in English about what the song means. (No inappropriate songs allowed!!)

FELIZ CINCO DE MAYO
GRADO 6 Students will prepare for their reading assessment this week.
GRADO 7 Students will be mastering the Preterit Tense and learn the Present Progressive.
GRADO 8 Students will finish El Norte - a sensitive portrayal of a brother and sister who immigrate to the USA from Guatemala.
Weeks of March 24 and April 1
GRADO 6 - Students will be learning the verb IR and the formula with the verb IR + A + INFINITIVE.
GRADO 7 - Students will be learning more community vocabulary words and learning formal commands. Students will be able to give directions around a city or the school.
GRADO 8 - Students will be learning the conditional tense and reviewing the past tenses. Immigration is our next thematic unit.

Week of March 3-7
Grado 6
Students will be learning vocabulary for their community and the city. Students will discover the differences and similarities between hispanic cities and cities in the U.S.A. There will be an achievement sometime this week.
Grado 7
Students will be taking a quiz on clothing vocabulary. There will be an achievement sometime this week. Students will begin to create fashion catalogos.
Grado 8
Students will complete and present projects on South America.

Weeks of Jan. 28-Feb. 8
GRADO 6 - Students will be completing the vocabulary portion of "La Casa" and this week will review AR verbs. Students are preparing for their house project in which they will create their dream house and write a description of the house.
GRADO 7 - For the next week students will be exploring the climate, culture, geography and political situations in Cuba.
GRADO 8 - For the next week students will begin to explore South America.

YA ESTAMOS EN EL SEGUNDO TRIMESTRE
Weeks of Jan. 14 - Jan. 21
GRADO 6 - For the next two weeks students will be working on La Casa and activities around the home. Students will be viewing virtual tours of homes in Spain in preparation for their academic assessments on houses.

GRADO 6 - For the next two weeks students will be working on La Escuela (school) unit. Students will learn about AR verbs, classroom vocabulary, subject areas and telling time.
Assessment grade 6 December 18 - vocabulary, ar verbs, telling time.
GRADO 7 - For the next two weeks students will be working on food and restaurant vocabulary. Students will be able to function with their new vocabulary in "real life" situations.
GRADO 8 - For the next two weeks students will be working on the Preterit and begin the Imperfect Tense.

La semana (el 29 de octubre)
8th grade
This week students will continue talking about personal daily routines using reflexive verbs. They will also be reading and writing postcards in Spanish which incorporate concepts we have covered up to this point. Students will review reflexive verbs and familiar commands. Also, students will have an Academic Achievement on writing in Spanish. Students will write a post card in Spanish. Students will have a rubric to guide them on verb and vocabulary use.
7th grade
Students will continue with their unit on La Familia. Students will also have an Academic Achievement on writing in Spanish. Students will write a post card in Spanish using family vocabulary as well as verbs that have been reviewed in class.
6th grade
Students will be mastering the verb Gustar this week as well as exploring the use of adjectives and adjective agreement. Definite articles and indefinite articles have been introduced and there will be a formative assessment this week.

8th grade
Students will be working on the unit Para Vivir Bien. Students review past time vocabulary, the human body, and begin to learn how to talk about normal daily routines using reflexive verbs.
7th grade
Students will work on expressing obligations and plans using Tener + que + infinitive and IR + a + infinitive. Students will begin their unit on La Familia. Family vocabulary and simple verbs will be introduced.
6th grade
Students will be completing an Academic Achievement Summative Assessment on vocabulary, numbers, the alphabet, and the verb SER (to be). Student will also be completing simple writing tasks that reflect the State Standards. Basic weather vocabulary will be introduced.
