Welcome to 7th grade math! We have begun our study of Unit 1 material: Data & Statistics.
We will start our study by learning how to identify and calculate the measures of central tendency such as mean, median, and mode. We will be exploring how to interpret these values and what makes each of them important to consider in different types of statistics problems.
We will then be learning how to interpret and analyze data from different types of graphic representation such as circle graphs, bar graphs, line plots, line graphs, stem-and-leaf plots, and box-and-whisker plots.
Throughout the unit, we will be increasing math-specific vocabulary such as mean, median, mode, range, outlier, horizontal axis, vertical axis, statistics, data set, and the various names of graphs. Check out the electronic flashcards at the top of this page to practice this unit's specific math vocabulary.
Homework can be expected to be assigned Monday through Thursday. A complete homework/classwork package is currently being prepared that will provide all the homework assignments for the entire unit. Students will only be given one paper copy so if they need a replacement, they will have to print it out again from a link on the bottom of the Heron's Homework page.

Students should come to class prepared with their red math folder, loose-leaf lined paper, their prior night's homework, a pencil, a pen, and a positive attitude!
