April/May
Science
Students will be completing their study on nutrition. Our last unit will be focusing on plants and their life cycle.
The Boat Regatta will take place in the beginning of June. Our students will begin building boats towards the end of May. They will choose one category to focus on while designing their boat. Some of these categories include: smallest, largest, holds the most weight, withstands choppy water, moves by wind.
Global Studies
We will begin our next global studies unit about Mexico. The students will learn about the Mexican culture and a few Spanish words. As we did in Canada, we will count our way to ten in Spanish. Our culminating activity is a fiesta which we are planning to have on, Thursday, June 19th. We will enjoy centers in the morning, followed by a Mexican lunch. All parents are welcome and more information will follow as the date approaches.
Reading
Second graders enjoyed hands-on lessons about the importance of punctuation both as readers and writers. They explored big books looking for various punctuation marks and how they are used.
Writing
Our next writing activity is a non-fiction "How to____." Students will provide instructions about the task of their choice.
