WELCOME TO TEEN LEADERSHIP!

KEEP SCROLLING DOWN FOR CYCLE UPDATES

When students discover their own self-worth and approach life prepared to achieve, the opportunities are endless! This is the philosophy behind the Teen Leadership course. Teen Leadership teaches students to take responsibility, express themselves, and handle problems and decisions when they arise. Teen Leadership prepares students for success in all they pursue, in and beyond the classroom.

Teen Leadership is designed to develop leadership qualities in a nurturing environment. Students have the opportunity to present a variety of speeches, participate in group activities and write journal entries based on classroom experiences. Additionally, students will be challenged to evaluate, develop, and apply the principles learned in the classroom outside of the classroom.

Leadership is all about being your personal best. It’s about doing the right thing and getting results over time. In Teen Leadership students will learn by doing which will build their self-confidence and in turn give the students the skills necessary to work cooperatively in challenging situations and with challenging people.

More benefits of Teen Leadership:

*Handling peer pressure
*Building meaningful relationships
*Communicating effectively
*Demonstrating creative problem-solving
*Accepting personal responsibility for your own thoughts, attitudes and actions
*Realizing the importance of principles, standards and beliefs
*Taking healthy risks in order to be successful

What's learned here leaves here.
What's said here stays here.

PROMOTIONAL BULLETIN BOARD PROJECT

Developing a Promotional Bulletin Board is a part of the 11th grade Teen Leadership-Career Development Curriculum and you will be required to design, prepare and promote a bulletin board related to your shop area. These trifold boards will be put on display in the shop areas during Career Exploratory Night/Parent Night on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. You will be asked to choose a topic to promote a specific tool, product or technique and/or skill essential to your trade area. Other choices can include career options, safety procedures, licensing information and or organizations related to your shop area. Your goal would be to promote your topic in a clear and effective manner. All information related to your topic must be accurate and relevant. Your message should be easily understood and motivational. The board itself should be well organized, creative, and balanced.

You will also be asked to present your Promotional Bulletin Board to the class. This presentation should be an explanation of your topic using the board as a visual aid.

You will receive two grades for this project:
•    One grade for the Promotional Bulletin Board
•    One grade for the oral presentation/speech explaining the board
•    Check Rubrics for requirements

You may work as an individual or in a group with a maximum of 3 members.

Extra Credit Opportunities

"The Sharing Plate" is available to take home and share with your family.         Read more . . .

                             THE SHARING PLATE

The sharing plate idea began after September 11, 2001.  That September morning, all we wanted was to have our families safely home.  We all have many positive thoughts that we don’t always share or never find the right time to say.  There is no time like the present.

Directions: You are “The Sharing Plate” person. Each family member or guest at the table is to say something nice about the person with the plate.
The rim of the plate has different phrases to help you get started.  Look inside your heart and say it!

This is an expression of Appreciation!
Each day is a gift, so give the gift of appreciation every day!

When you return to school the next day, you have to share your experience during “Good News” with the class.

This will allow you to be given +3 points to your final grade at the end of the cycle.  You are allowed to do this only once per year for extra credit, but feel free to keep the tradition going in your homes!

Share the good news………………What did they say:

Thank you……

You’re special…...

I’m glad……

I appreciate……

I like when…….

I hope you…..

And all this fun earns you 3 extra credit points !!

GOOD NEWS . . .  !!

ANOTHER EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY . . .

5 Extra Points!

Show off your leadership skills by taking control . . .

Start our class off with enthusiasm by leading "Good News".  Show us how well you have learned to engage and explore by interacting with other members of our class. And then bring those skills home for a powerful and positive ending with your own reflection or encouraging story to end the class with. Launch us into our day feeling energized and good about ourselves and others!

See Ms. Patrick to sign up!

And as always . . . Be Good, Be Kind, Do Something Nice!
