Welcome to an exciting school year at West End School.  My name is Miss Pinto and I am your child's third grade teacher.  I would like to welcome you into my classroom, and assure you that your child will have an exciting learning experience.  I feel that a close relationship between teacher and parent is extremely important; therefore I am taking this opportunity to tell you a little about my classroom.

Classroom Rules

In order for every child to learn in his or her maximum potential, I will create a classroom environment in which every child feels emotionally and physically safe.

THE RULES FOR MY CLASSROOM ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1) Raise your hand before answering a question

2) Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself

3) Speak politely, without yelling, screaming, swearing or teasing

4) Ask for permission before leaving the room

5) Allow Miss Pinto to teach, interrupting is not acceptable

6) Ask and get permission to use other student's and teacher's belongings

7) You may help another student, but everyone must do their own work

8) Keep quiet in the hallways at all times

When shopping please keep in mind that during winter months children often get sick.  Donations of boxes of tissues, hand sanitizers, lysol wipes, and band-aids would truly be appreciated.

Homework

Purpose of Homework

Homework will be an important extension of the activities and lessons I have taught in the classroom.   It will consist of meaningful homework assignments that reinforce what your child has learned.  It will also provide for practice of skills and application of principles that students  have learned and reviewed in the classroom.

Time

Actual time required to complete assignments will vary with each student’s study habits and academic skills.  If your child is spending a large amount of time doing homework, please contact me and we can discuss possible solutions.

Homework Policy

Students are expected to complete and return homework assignment.  Students who do not complete homework assignment or turn in late assignments on a consistent basis will receive any of the following:

1) Communication with parents through planner

2) Recess detention

(students will receive recess detention after two consecutive days of missing assignment)

3) Missed reward activity

4) Communication with parents (phone call)

5) After school detention

Students who miss homework because of an absence will receive the opportunity to make up missed work.  Students are given one calendar day for each day absent plus one extra day to turn in their work.

Responsibilities

of Parents

1) Students should complete homework

with the guidance of an adult.

2) Set a regular, uninterrupted study time each day

3) Establish a quiet, well-lit area

4) Monitor your childs organizational skill.

5) Check to make sure they have organized their daily assignments in their homework folder

6) Help your child work to find the answer, do not simply give him/her the answers.

 7) Be supportive when your child gets frustrated with a difficult assingment.

8) Keep me informed about any concerns.

Responsibilities

of Students

 1) Write down all howework assingments in the "West End School Student Planner"

2)Bring everything he or she needs to complete homework assignments

3) Set aside a regular time for studying

4) Find a quiet, well-lit study area

5) Work on homework independently whenever possible, so that it reflects the student's ability

6) Produce quality work

7) Make sure assignments are done according to the given instructions and completed on time.

Words of Wisdom

"How far you go in life depends on your being tender

with the young, compassionate with the aged,

sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the

weak and strong. Because someday in your life you

will have been all of these."

(George Washington Carver)

“You are told a lot about your education, but some beautiful, sacred memory, preserved since childhood, is perhaps the best education of all.  If a man carries many such memories into life with him, he is saved for the rest of his days.”

(Fyodor Dostoyevsky)

Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”

(Aristotle)
