Current Events – Honors: Part of our goal is to provide a forum in which you will become passionate about the issues facing the world in which we live; be prepared to look beyond the surface of those issues!  Throughout this course, we will study current domestic and international topics from more than one point of view. You are strongly encouraged to monitor current news and issues from all media sources!  Please come to class with a charged laptop and an open mind.

Cur. Events Honors White Section:

Pop Culture:  Popular culture delves into people's  shared attitudes, values, beliefs, and traditions.  In class, we will be examining things that express those values, beliefs, and traditions.  Not only will we analyze "the people's culture" through the mass media, but we will also look at clothing style, sports, and other facets of pop culture.  At the core of the course is the question of whether our culture influences the mass media or mass media influences culture.

Pop Culture Purple Section:   You MUST bring your laptops to class.  Please place all in-class handouts in a folder and keep them for future exams.

HOMEWORK AND ABSENTEE POLICIES AND RULES

1.     Homework assignments must be printed before prayer begins.  It is strongly suggested that you print your work before our scheduled class or before school begins.

**Take-home assignments for which you are given more than one evening to complete must be typed.   “My laptop doesn’t work” is not an excuse when you have an extended number of days to complete an assignment.

2.     If you are sick or miss class for ANY reason, you are still responsible for submitting work in a timely manner.  Work that was due the day of your absence must be submitted the day of your return.  If you miss a test or quiz on the day of your absence, you MUST take that test or quiz on the day of your return to class.

3.     Daily homework will NOT be accepted late.  If you do not have you homework in class on the day that it is due, you must submit it by the end of the school day.

4.     Take-home quiz or test grade assignments will be accepted late; HOWEVER, a late assignment will receive a deduction of five points for each day the respective assignment is late.  Therefore, any “quiz or test grade” assignment that is received more than five days from the due date will receive a failing grade.

*Class assignments will be posted above according to section colors.
