Can you believe we only have about 25 Days of school left?!! Where did this year go? I guess it's true what they say, time flies when you're having fun!!
The children enjoyed the Mineola Police Headquarters Trip. They made ID cards, found their fingerprints using CSI techniques, were amazed by self-defense and SWAT rappelling off the building. We went in the police rescue boats and rode through mini safety town.
In math the children are learning about fractions. We are exploring fractions of a whole and fractions of a group. Practice reading fractions with your child. Food is a great source for practicing with fractions, especially pizza, graham crackers, KIT KAT bars, etc. Yum! Who knew math could be so delicious? Our last unit will be addition/subtraction of two-digit numbers without regrouping.
In Science we learned all about seeds and planting. We conducted an experiment to prove what a seed really needs to grow. We planted seeds and are taking care of them in class. Did you know many friuts and vegetables are either a root, leaf, stem or flower? Ask your children, they'll tell you! We also learned about Motion and Energy. We experimented with magnets. We learned about push and pull, force, gravity, speed and position. It's been fun.
Our reading skills keep getting better. Read everyday and practice word cards to reinforce skills.
We hope everyone enjoyed the Memorial Day weekend. We are getting ready for Flag Day and busy making our gifts for Father's Day.
