Parents, I want you all to think about having your child perform at NYSSMA.
NYSSMA is an organization of music teachers (I am part of NYSSMA) that hosts solo festivals through out New York State. The festival that our students can participate in is at Westbury School District March 27 and the 28.
All of your children have received (in December) a solo and scales, rudiments for percussionist. Every child will learn a solo and scales/rudiments and perform them in their lesson class for a grade (just like a NYSSMA experience) at the end of March. In addition the students can perform that same solo and scales/rudiments in front of a NYSSMA judge at Westbury at the end of March. (NYSSMA is extra the students don’t have to do this, but it is a great experience for the children to do, it is a great motivator, and it gives the children another performance experience)
To get the children ready for the NYSSMA performances there will be a solo concert here at Mattlin for my 5-6th grade band students in the evening in front of the other performers and their parents.
If you want your child to perform at NYSSMA, the children did receive NYSSMA forms in December, but I could always send home more. This form needs to be back to me by this Friday with a check for $14 made out to POBCSD.
