It's official. It's Fall, but you might not know it with the beautiful weather we all have been enjoying! It looks as though the volleyball unit will be successfully played and completed outdoors for all three weeks - What a relief.
This month I would like to focus on Health Education.
With a month of school underway, all of the Health classes have now established a health topic to explore.
In fourth grade everything is new for them this year. It is a major transition year with one introduction after another. At this time they are still being introduced to what health education is all about.
This year grades five and six are investigating the topic of Nutrition and have gone onto the internet website to learn about the new pyramid from the United States Department of Agriculture. Parents, the website is meant for us all. Please visit the site, www.mypyramid.gov to gain a better understanding of its new direction for better nutrition and activity!
I have tried to teach my students to "SEE" that they take good care of their body everyday - to Sleep, Eat Right and EXERCISE! I have also emphasized the importance of maintaining balance in their lives; physically, mentally and spiritually!
In grades seven and eight, the classes are learning about Diseases, Disorders and Disabilities. To create ownership for better learning, the students have all selected a disease, perhaps one that has touched their lives personally to report. The reports are a homework assignment due by the end of the quarter.
Reports will not be graded in the first quarter. Rather students will be responsible for turning in the report on time. Oral presentations will begin in early November.
