Welcome to Mrs. McDannell's Fourth Grade Class! I am so excited to be starting my second year at Bristow Run! I previously taught fourth grade at West Gate Elementary from 1991-2000. I then took some time off to stay home with my two children. Once my son started preschool, I taught the three-year old class at Haymarket Baptist Preschool. Now he is in second grade and my daughter is in middle school!
I am originally from the Pittsburgh area, where I taught fifth grade and high school English. I moved to Virginia in 1991 and received my master's degree in reading from Virginia Tech. However, I still remain a faithful STEELERS fan!
We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Patton working in our classroom this year! While only a few students may require her assistance, she will be able to work with everyone, which will enable our class to have the most successful year possible!
Friday Folders
Every Friday, or the last day of the school week, your child will be bringing home a purple folder. Please view the contents of the folder with your child and sign the attached sheet. The Friday Folder must be returned to school on Monday. It is the responsibility of each student to make sure the folder is signed by his/her parent and returned on time. However, a gentle reminder from you may be necessary for the first few weeks.
Daily Agendas
Every student has an agenda in which to record the daily assignments. Children will write down homework, dates of upcoming tests, encore for the next day, and other important information. Please sign your initials in the agenda book on a daily basis. It is the child's responsibility to make sure that homework is copied from the board, the agenda is signed, and that it is returned to school the next day.
Homework Policy
Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. The maximum time your child should spend on assignments is 40 minutes per day. Because no two children are alike, this time may vary. In addition to the daily homework, each child should be reading for 20 minutes a day. Please record the time and initial the reading calendar that was sent home in the Panther folder. At the end of the month, each student will need to turn in the reading calendar. If a student fails to turn in any assignment, he/she will be required to fill out a "Missing Assignment" sheet. They will be expected to explain why the assignment was not turned in and a parent signature will be required.
