Welcome to the Principal's Message Board for SHES:

3rd quarter Progress Reports were distributed today.  Thank you for your patience.

Dr. Hite recently announced that the state waived 5 of the 9 inclement weather days so school district must make up 4 days and the last day has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 16th.  Note:  The last days are still subject to change if schools close for additional inclement weather days.

Maryland State Assessments (MSA) began this week for all students in grades 3-6.  The test will be given in two parts.  The reading section was given Tuesday, March 9th and Wednesday, March 10th.  The math section will be given next week, Tuesday, March 16th and Wednesday, March 17th.  You can help your child do well on the test if they do the following:
„«    They are in bed by 8;30 PM
„«    They have breakfast
„«    They arrive to school on time
For those students that arrived on time, their names were entered into a raffle. Five (5) studentsˇ¦ names were drawn from each grade (3rd-6th) and these students received a free kids meal at Longhorn Steakhouse.  For students in grades 3rd through 6th, there will be no homework assigned during this time.  It would be greatly appreciated if you could try to schedule your child's appointments around these dates.

Thank you for all the monies that have been turned in this week for our Pennies for Patients.  We have exceeded our goal of $1,000 with your participation.  We will continue collecting through Friday, March 19, 2010.  The class that collects the most money will win a pizza party.

Many students are coming to school sick.  If your child has a temperature of 99.5 degrees or higher, Nurse Joy will contact you in order to pick up your child.  Reminder, your child must be fever free for 24 hours before your child can return back to school.  There are many people in our building with a chronic illness and if they come in contact with an ill student, it will further compromise their immune system.  I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

There will be many students wanting to stay inside during recess.  With the onset of the allergy season, if your child needs to stay in the building and not participate in recess due to allergies/asthma, you will need to notify your childˇ¦s teacher in writing and include the specified timeframe such as the number of days or period of time (from month to month).  Please be aware that your child will be excluded from outdoor activities (examples:  Field Trips, Field Day, Recess) that occur during your requested time frame.  If medication needs to be administered to your child, you will need to obtain a medication form from our Nurse, Mrs. Smith.  Children staying in for recess will be sitting in another teacherˇ¦s classroom.  It is important that you impress upon your child that they are not to be disruptive as he/she will be a guest in that teacherˇ¦s classroom.

We are trying something new in this age of technology.  If you would like to be on an email list that will give you school event reminders, please email your name and email address to aubri.santuccio@pgcps.org and she will create a group on our email system.

Please make sure your students are coming to school with their coat, hat, gloves, and a sweater.  Our students go outdoors when the temperature is above 32 degrees.

All visitors are welcome in the building.  Please sign in at the office and receive a visitorˇ¦s badge before proceeding down the hall.  Teachers are not allowed to hold a conference while they are on hall duty or on instructional time.  If you would like to meet with your childˇ¦s teacher, please leave a message in the office or you may email them.

Have a peaceful weekend!

Mrs. Tracie Prevost
Principal
