Welcome to the Principal's Message Board for SHES:

This past Monday, we had over 230 students that received the H1N1 Intranasal Spray.    For those that are 10 years and younger, will be receiving a 2nd dose of the flu mist in the near future.  Stay tuned for further details.  In the meantime:

·   Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub
·   Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils.
·   Reinforce the need for your children to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues. Using the elbow, arm or sleeve instead of the hand, when a tissue is unavailable, is also a method of covering their coughs or sneezes.
·   Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius, or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or experience diarrhea.
·   Do not send children to school if they are sick. Any children who are determined to be sick while at school will be sent home.

Today, October 29th, is the end of the first marking period.  School will be closed tomorrow, Friday, October 30th in order for teachers to prepare grades.

Today, Jeff Blitz, President Elect and Conrad Fleck, Past President, for Rotary Club of Laurel, presented to each student in the 3rd grade class their own copy of the “A Student’s Dictionary”.  Each year, the Rotary Club of Laurel donates dictionaries to different schools.

Prince George’s County Schools has designated Wednesday, November 11th as conference day.  I am pleased to announce that we will be holding conferences on Tuesday, November 10th (3-8 PM).  We realize many parents work during the day and it is more convenient to hold a conference in the evening.    If you have not received a conference letter, please contact your child’s teacher.  A few teachers will not be available on November 10th due to prior commitments.  If your child’s teacher is not available on November 10th, they will hold their conferences on November 11th.  Please make effort to keep your conference time.  We want to share your child’s academic progress with you. We look forward to seeing all of you!

As our mornings become chilly, please be sure that your child come to school with a sweater or jacket.  Please remind them to put one on before they leave home.  Our students go outdoors when the temperature is above 32 degrees.  Thank you for your help.

All visitors are welcome in the building.  Please sign in at the office and receive a visitor’s badge before proceeding down the hall.  Teachers are not allowed to hold a conference while they are on hall duty or on instructional time.  If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher, please leave a message in the office or you may email them.

Have a peaceful weekend!

Mrs. Tracie Prevost
Principal
