Are you interested in working part-time without having to hire a babysitter for your school-age children?

Considering becoming a substitute teacher.  The PGCPS Board of Education has approved the following compensation enhancements for substitutes.  

Substitute Teacher Rates

2007-08 School Year

$100/day – Bachelor’s degree or greater (short term)

$120/day – Bachelor’s degree or greater (long term)

PGCPS Retired Teacher = $150/day (short term)

PGCPS Retired Teacher = $175/day (long term)

$69/day  - non-degreed substitute (short term)

$91/day – non-degreed long-term substitute (long term)

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer break and finding time to curl up with a stack of good books.

Below is the list of supplies for each grade level except pre-k.  We have not finished unpacking the materials that are provided by the school system for pre-k, so we don't know what additional items the kids will need to bring in.  They definitely need a bookbag and lunch money or a bag lunch.  

Kindergarten
1.    Required Items:
2.    1 backpack with zippers and drawstrings but  NO WHEELS – large enough to carry all work and notes back and forth to school
3.    2 pair scissors (Fiskars – blunt tip) - one for home and one for school
4.    2 packs of 8 Crayola TWISTABLES crayons with no erasors - one for school, one for home
5.    2 4 oz. bottles of white Elmer’s glue - one for home and one for school
6.    3 blank journal books (available at the school store)
7.    1 pack standard #2 pencils
8.    Requested Donations:
9.    box of tissues
10.    liquid hand sanitizer
11.    baby wipes
12.    zip lock bags (assorted sizes)

First Grade
1.    Required Items:
2.    1 large, fat glue stick
3.    1 pocket folder (yellow, labeled “Work in Progress”, with child’s name)
4.    1 pocket folder (blue, labeled “Writing Folder”, with child’s name)
5.    1 pair scissors (Fiskars – age appropriate)
6.    2 Mead Primary Composition books (dotted line between solid lines)
7.    1 pack of 24 crayons
8.    2  large rubber eraser
9.    2 dozen #2 pencils
10.    4 (low-odor) Dry-erase markers
11.    Requested Donations:
12.    tissues
13.    paper towels
14.    zip lock bags (assorted sizes)
15.    liquid soap
16.    hand sanitizer
17.    Lysol or Clorox disinfecting wipes

Second Grade
1.    Required Items:
2.    2 pocket folders (bottom pockets, not side-pocket folders)
3.    1 sturdy, large, plastic zippered pencil pouch (no boxes please)
4.    24 # 2 pencils
5.    2 boxes of colored pencils
6.    2 boxes of crayons – 16 regular colors
7.    scissors (Fiskars pointed)
8.    2 glue sticks
9.    3 yellow highlighters
10.    6 black and white, marble composition books
11.    2 red pens

Third Grade

2.    1 ruler (standard and metric units)
3.    5 marbled composition books

8.    24 #2 pencils
9.    1 pocket dictionary/thesaurus combo (check the dollar store)
10.    notebook paper (wide rule)
11.    scissors (5” to 7” long)
12.    crayons (24 to 48 no fluorescent)
13.    colored pencils (long)
14.    markers (6 pack, fine tipped)
15.    1 six pack Post-It Notes (3”x3”)
16.    backpack or book bag (labeled with name)
17.    1 zippered pencil/supply pouch
18.    3 jumbo, stretchy, book covers

Fourth Grade
