WELCOME!

Well, the 2007 - 2008 school year is complete. We had an awesome year! GO STUDENTS! I am already looking forward to the 2008 - 2009 school year which is only weeks away. This summer I will be busy diligently working on technology training. Some of the training will be in Texas. I am very excited about how different our classes will be next year with the wonderful technology we will have available and integrated into our learning. If you would like to experience a PODCAST we completed this past year, please scroll to the bottom of this page past the "Links" section. Click on SPRING and you will hear the voices and see the illustrations of the rising fourth graders of Cleveland Elementary.

I would like to encourage all parents to have your student continue with Prescriptive Instruction (PI) for the summer. Not only will it help to keep skills sharp, but it will better prepare students for next year. Just go to LearningToday.com and enter the school code: cleve. Then your student will use the user name and password they normally use here at school. That is all there is to it. The program may be used 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with internet connection.

SPELLING LISTS and TEST DATES
Students have received a copy of their Spelling Words for the year along with Test Dates. Tests will be given on Friday. Each week students will have ten words to study and master from the High Frequency Word List. Not only do we want students to spell the words correctly on their Spelling Test, the larger goal is to have each student correctly spell the words each time they are used in their writing. Once a student consistently does this, mastery is achieved. We believe this will greatly help our third grade students prepare for their upcoming fourth grade writing test next year. Thank you for helping your student master these very important words!

ACCELERATED READER:
Students are busy reading and taking AR Tests based on their individualized reading levels. Computers are available for AR testing each morning from 7:15 AM until 7:45 AM. Time is also available during AR class with Mr. Kern. Individual student goals are written in their orange AR folders and recorded on the Weekly Grade Report.

GOOD CITIZENS

Not only are our students working diligently on academic disciplines, but they are also maturing in their social development. Week after week students are making good decisions for which we can all be proud. As a result they are becoming better students, friends and citizens.
