SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community

Welcome to Woodleaf Physical Education

My goals are for children to develop a love for physical activity by helping them find a variety of ways to enjoy being physically active. The physical education program at Woodleaf is designed to help children develop the physical competence that lead to confidence and participation in physical activity for a lifetime. Physical, emotional, intellectual and social benefits come with being physically active.  An overview of my program is children will learn and continue to refine skills and concepts around the following:  Movement concepts--locomotor movement (running, jumping, skipping) spatial awareness, weight transfer, changes in directions and speeds, pathways, force effort, different ways to balance, jump and land.
Skills Themes- Motor skills- throwing and catching, kicking, volleying, dribbling with hands and feet, and stricking with rackets. In upper grades children are taught how to use fundamental skills in games and sports, some gymnastics and various forms of rhythmical movement. Wellness concepts--bicycle safety (upper grades will ride bikes), healthy and unhealty foods. Components of fitness and ways to improve these components (cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance and flexibility). As a teacher I understand and recognize all children are different and are at different developmental levels. I will attempt to promote all children experiences that are both beneficial and enjoyable. If you have the opportunity, come visit and participate. Hope to see you soon.
