I would like to welcome all Hornets to my Healthful Living class!  I look forward to meeting and teaching each of you.  Below you can find a list of the topics covered and daily assignments for class.

08/25/2008 (Health)

ALL CLASSES:

Objective: Become familiar with Coach Hughes' Healthful Living class procedures and expectations.  Overview of Healthful Living.

Homework:
Return class syllabus and procedures forms signed by parent or guardian by Wednesday,August 27.  
The online Healthful Living Handbook form is due by Friday, August 29. The Handbook can be found at the following website http://hollyridgems.wcpss.net/healthfullivinghandbook.pdf
Any uniform money and forms are due to Coach Hughes by Thursday, August 28.

08/26/2008 (P.E.)

ALL CLASSES:

Objective: Become familiar with the procedures and expectations during P.E. class in the gym and locker rooms.  Overview of P.E.

08/27/08 (Health)

ALL CLASSES:

Objective: Review Healthful Living policies and procedures.  Brainstorm Mission Statement for your life.

Homework:
Study Policies and Procedures for quiz on Friday.
Turn in online Handbook form signed by parent on Friday.

08/28/2008 (P.E.)

Objective: Become familiar with locker room procedures and using a combination lock.

Homework: Practice using a combination lock at home if you do not know how to use one.   Dress out for P.E. on Tuesday.

08/29/08 (Health)

Objective: Assess procedures knowledge.  Complete Mission Statement rough draft.  

Homework: Begin working on Mission Statement Final Copy.  DUE ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5. Dress out for P.E. Tuesday.

09/02/08 (P.E.)

Objective:
1.) Follow correct gym and locker room procedures.
2.) Work in a team environment to accomplish a common goal.

Activity: Four-way tug of war

09/03/08 (Health)

Objective: Identify and describe the four dimensions of health.

Homework:
1.)Final copy of mission statement due Friday, Sept 5.
2.)Dress out for P.E.

09/04/08 (P.E.)

Objective:
1.) Demonstrate proper stretching exercises.
2.) Complete a valid fitness pre-test.

Activities:  Sit-ups, push-up, sit and reach, height and weight pre-test.

Reminder: Final copy of mission statement due tomorrow in health (09-05).

09/05/08 (Health)

Objective: Analyze activities to detemine what dimension of health that they affect.

Homework: Dress out for P.E.

09/08/08 (P.E.)

Objective:
1.) Demonstrate proper stretching exercises.
2.) Complete a valid fitness pre-test.

Activities: Pacer or Mile run pre-test.

09/09/08 (Health)

Objective: Describe heredity and environment and determine the impact of each on personal health.

Homework:
1.)Study for introduction to health quiz (four dimensions of health and heredity/environment)
2.)Dress out for P.E.

09/10/08 (P.E.)

Objective:
1.) Demonstrate proper stretching exercises.
2.) Complete a valid fitness pre-test.

Activity: Pacer or Mile Run pre-test

09/11/08 (Health)

Objective: Analyze personal strengths and weaknesses in the four dimensions of health.

Homework:
1.) Dress out for P.E.
2.) Complete Personal Dimensions of Health (strengths and weaknesses) mini-poster if not complete. Due Monday, Sept 15.

09/12/08

Objective:
1.) Demonstrate proper stretching exercises.
2.) Complete a valid fitness pre-test.

Activity: Flexibility testing, height/weight measurements, BMI

Reminder: Personal Dimensions of Health mini-poster due Monday, Sept. 15.
