Tuesday May 20
Students took the End of Grade Reading test today. I hope everyone did well on it. Tomorrow is the EOG in Math. Students will finish by lunch time and then go to their elective classes.
Students will be back to regular classes on Thursday May 22. Block 1 will begin a novel entitled Hush and Blocks 2-4 will read Shakespeare's Midsummers' Night Dream. We will be reading these in class and it will take us up to the last week of school. Students will have vocabulary and other homework to go along with the novel/play they are reading.
Please encourage your student to continue reading their book for outside reading.
Reading logs for this week will be due on Friday. I handed out the logs last Friday in class.
SCHOOL IS NOT OVER UNTIL JUNE 10 - AND I WILL BE TEACHING UP UNTIL THAT DAY!!! PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD TO STAY FOCUSED AND LET'S HAVE A GREAT END TO THE YEAR.

Wednesday May 7
Today all classes went to the library to check out a book for outside reading. Please make sure that students have the book EACH day in all core classes. Students will have to complete a nightly reading log for the next four weeks. Parents will have to sign off on the reading logs each Thursday.
We continued reviewing for the EOG's today and will continue with the rest of this week.

Tuesday May 6
This week we have started our review for the End of Grade test that will be on May 20. For 8th grade, students take an EOG READING test for language arts. I will hand out a review sheet on Thursday May 8 and we will spend this week and next week going over information and looking at literature to help with the terms.
Please have your child look at the review sheet nightly and encourage them to come see me if they have any questions.

Tuesday April 29
Blocks 1-3
We finished up our research projects today with the final powerpoint presentations!!! The kids did a great job researching their decades, writing research papers and then presenting their groups to the class. Please remind your student that if he/she HAS NOT turned in a research paper (blocks 2 and 3 only) then they MUST be in by Thursday of this week.
Block 4
Powerpoint presentations continued today. RESEARCH PAPERS ARE DUE TOMORROW!!!!!
All classes: We will finish up classwork on dialect that we started last week and then begin reviewing for the End of Grade (EOG) test for the next few weeks. Students can expect homework that will be reviewing for this test.

We started last week on our research project for the year. All students have been assigned to a group and were assigned a decade in US History to research - 1920's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's. Last week we were in the library doing our research. On Monday and Tuesday of this week we were in the classroom learning how to write an outline of our research.
Wed 4/16, Thurs 4/17 and Friday 4/18 we are in the computer lab. Students will be working with their groups to create a computer presentation of their research.
Block I: Students will create a PowerPoint presentation based on their research.
Block II - IV: Students will write a mini-research paper using their individual research and create a wikispace page with their group based on all their research.

HAVE A FUN SPRING BREAK!
When we return from break we will start our research project. Students will be working in groups to research a decade of US History - from 1900-2000. More information to come....have a relaxing vacation!
Report cards will be issued on Friday April 11.

Shortened classes today due to Career Fair for all eighth graders.
All classes had their journals checked and students worked in groups to come up with an acrostic poem about SPRING BREAK - using alliteration, onomatopoeia and either rhyme or repetition.

All blocks today worked on a writing assignment. We took an assignment from Social Studies about a great inventor and turned it into a Feature newspaper article.
All poetry books due today.
TUESDAY MARCH 25
All poetry notebooks are due tomorrow!!!!!!
Today in class we finished recitations of "The Road Not Taken" and we worked on finishing our poetry notebooks.
MONDAY MARCH 24
Today all classes worked on their Poetry Booklets and some students recited the poem "Road Not Taken." Recitations will continue tomorrow.
I will close out grades for 3rd quarter this Friday, March 28. No late work will be accepted after that date.
THURSDAY MARCH 20
All blocks:
We worked on our poetry notebooks today in class.
Some students who did not recite their poems today are signed up for Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Worked on poetry booklets - finished final copies of Bio Poem, Haiku and Free Verse Poem. Wrote a poem using rhyming couplets.
Read "The Choice" and "Southbound on the Freeway" in literature books - analyzed poems for literary terms and meaning.
