What a Great Start!
If anyone walked into our classrooms right now, they would never guess that just a few weeks ago all of the desks and chairs were stacked on top of each other and there was not a child in sight. These children have adjusted greatly and are already behaving as if they were old pros at being 4th graders. There is a tremendous amount of new expectations for these kids involving, academics and classroom management. A few kinks are being worked out, but overall we are very excited about how well these teams of students are working together to help each other become successful Carver Cubs showing PRIDE whenever and wherever they can.
Self Assessments:
I appreciate the parents who have signed the self assessments. This is a great tool for parents and teachers. It lets you know on a daily basis of your child’s homework and behavior status. Look for this every day and sign it. (This includes Fridays.) Thanks!
Reading Logs:
All of the children should be reading at least 20 minutes per night Mon. thru Thur. Weekend reading is not required but it would definitely add to strengthening your child as a reader. Reading logs went home this week and should be signed Mon. thru Thur. This will help determine what your child is reading.
Medical Information:
Please let us know immediately if your child has a medical issue that we should know about. If your child needs to take medicine (or needs an inhaler) you will need to sign a medicine/medical form
Field Trips:
So far we have one scheduled field trip this year and several more in the works. We will be attending the North Carolina Symphony, in Raleigh on November 8. This is a free field trip for all 4th grade students. Yippee!
We anticipate going to the NC Museum of History and The Natural Sciences Museum in the fall; the rock quarry in Knightdale and Wilmington/Fort Fisher Aquarium (maybe including the USS NC Battleship) in the spring.
The Aquarium trip will cost approximately $25-$30, please be thinking ahead for saving up for this fee.
Project Achieve Assessments:
A form will be stapled to the inside right side of your child’s purple Wed. folder. It will have the dates of each assessment and your child’s proficiency score will be posted beside each assessment a few days after they take the assessment. When you see a new score, sign beside it so that we know you have seen the score.
Conferences:
Because we are team teaching, we would like to schedule our parent conferences together. Believe it or not interims are coming up soon. At anytime that you would like to talk to us, please send a note to your child’s homeroom teacher. Let us know in the note what the best time is for you to meet. The best time for us to meet with you will be Tue.-Fri. at 2:45. If you can’t come during this time we will work out something else.
