AUG. 27TH—INTERIMS SENT HOME!

FALL PICTURES ON SEPTEMBER 4TH!

August Friends Birthdays:
Juan——-17th
Luke——18th
Catherine——24th

Grade testing behind us, we are moving on quickly.

We will begin Empowering Writers next week.

We are already reinforcing spelling patterns with our spelling lists.

We will continue reviewing math skills with Keeping Skills Sharp and Problem Solver Special.

We will continue to teach and practice CROP-QV reading strategies:
C—connect the text
to your life, the world, or something we know about
R—react to the text
O—state your opinion
P—predict what will happen next
Q—question with “I wonder” statements
V—visualize in your mind based on the details provided
We continue to review math terms like:  horizontal, vertical, variable, population, sample, combination, permutation, addend, sum, and turn around facts.  We have also discussed the commutative and associative properties.  Ask your child to tell you about all of these!

This week, we will continue to review subtraction facts and strategies.  Subtracting with regrouping is coming up—you may want to begin to prepare your child for this challenge!

We will also begin our social studies unit on citizenship this week.

Look forward to our science unit (beginning in September) on soils.

Homework is assigned weekly.  Please remember to check homework folder.  All homework is due on Friday from the week.

Remember to read nightly for 20 minutes Monday-Thursday with your child
and sign the planner.

Send in your Box Tops, Soup labels, can tabs, empty ink cartridges, and old cell phones—the school collects all of these items for the PTA.  These are great ways to earn ‘free money’ for our students

We need your support!
