Self-portraits by the Fourth and Fifth graders are no longer on display in the cafeteria. I hope you got an opportunity to come see them. Taking their place is the art that was hung in the Carolina Artists Guild's Art Expo on April 25 and 26. It was a great show and I am proud to say we had 3 students who took home awards. We Vang in third grade received 1st place in the 2nd-3rd grades; First grader, Katie Chen, received 2nd place in the K-1st grades, and Perla Chanez in Kindergarten received an Honorable Mention in K-1st grades. I was a very proud art teacher at the awards presentation! Congratulations to all 108 students who submitted work to be part of this year's Expo-you are all winners to me! I would also like to offer congratulations to the following students for their artwork selected to hang in this year's exhibit at Waterworks Visual Art Center in Salisbury. Fifth Grade: Harrison Safrit, Bobby Dean, Anthony McCullah, Andrew Poe, Choyce Neal. Fourth Grade: Donte' HIll, Matthew Zucchero, Hunter Cates.Third Grade: Justin Rippey, Patrick Street, Gabby Potvin. Second Grade: Karma Overcash and Eileen Nguyen. First Grade: Oscar Morton and Lucas Welch. It is extremely hard to pick only 15 students out of a school this size for this show. This show will open on Saturday, May 3 and will run through Sunday, May 18. The center is open Monday through Friday from 10-5 (7:00 pm on Thursdays), 10-4 on Saturdays, and just for this exhibit 1-5 on Sundays. I hope you get a chance to come see the young artists representing all of Rowan County's schools. I want to Chesney Smith for her awesome list poem "The Eerie Night" which is complimenting Anthony McCullah's art. Thank you so much to those of you who made it out on Saturday for the opening reception. Seeing my students so excited about their artwork and sharing it with their parents, family and friends is the ultimate payoff for me. Thank you again for sharing with me.
Thanks to those who have sent in any wipes and egg cartons, but I will still take them if you send them! They help make clean up easier and the egg cartons make great paint palettes for mixing colors!!
The end of the school year will be here
before we know it. Having students every week has been great. I have
been able to cover more Art History and artists than in past years. I
feel it helps the students understand the art-making process more and
they enjoy learning about the artists almost as much as making projects
based on famous artist's works!! As the end of the year closes in, we will have some fun days as well as structured art projects. It's been a great year!! I hope to see you at PTA's Spring Program on Thursday, May 15. The art work from the Carolina Artists Guild's Art Expo is on display.
