Welcome to Millbridge and to second grade!!!

 It's October ! Time for fun!

(
)

We are having an absolutely wonderful year. Thanks for all you do at home to help your child be successful at school. Keep writing those sentences for homework and reading daily. Remember to ask comprehension questions about what they are reading. Thanks again for all of your help!

Please feel free to contact me at anytime during the school year either by email or phone. I will appreciate hearing from you.

Reading - Our current unit in our reading series is "Nature Walk." We are having fun reading about camping, parks, and nature. Skills in this unit include fact and opinion, catergorizing and classifying.

AR Reading - Students will have AR goals based on their reading levels. Please encourage your child to read their AR books very carefully, sometimes even two or three times. Children must have 80% or higher on their comprehension score to be considered for the AR Rewards each quarter. The deadline for meeting their AR goals will be October 24th. Keep reading!

Math - Math begins with addition and subtraction facts to 18. Please review these facts and spend 5-10 minutes a day practicing them. They need to memorized in second grade. Other skills include estimation and comparing numbers to 100. We are also working on place value of number to 1,000.

Social Studies -  We are talking about good leadership qualities that will lead up to our election in November. Children are learning about government and elected officials. They are also learning about the three branches of government. As always, we talk about character traits and being good citizens in our communities.
