Following is some information parents of students in my class need to know.

Students need to make sure they are keeping up with their Word Skills books and vocabulary words.  Students have a copy of a book in which they are to copy the definitions into whenever we go over them in class. Students will have vocabulary tests on these words weekly, usually Fridays, so it is very important that they keep up and know these words. The words and definitions can be found above on the flash cards.

Another weekly assignment is reading logs.  During the week, students are required to read 100 minutes, get parents to sign their reading log, and have it on Thursday.  This is intended to be an easy weekly grade because students can read their library book, something from a text book, and occassionally magazines.  I take students to the library every two weeks so they should have something to read.  If they do not have a library book to read, they should have a literature book at home and they can read any of the stories from it. I will accept reading logs on Fridays but I will deduct 10 points for it being a day late.

I do expect students to have their work completed on the due date. I try to put notes in organizers if a student doesn't have an assignment but sometimes things are so hectic that I am not able to do that. Parents are encouraged to check their child's organizer and should sign them nightly. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to call the school 704-857-7038. Please check with your child to make sure they have plenty of pencils and papers and replenish as needed.
