We are going to let our imaginations soar through reading and writing!

Vocabulary Quiz Every Wednesday!

Vocabulary Quiz Every Wednesday!

Students will be given 5 new words and word parts (prefixes, suffixes, base, etc...) this week and every week there after from their vocabulary workbooks.  The vocabulary workbooks are divided into ten lessons and each lesson has 5 word parts with approximately 5 vocabulary words showing how the word parts are used.  We will choose 5 words from each lesson every Wednesday.  The students will be responsible for knowing the word parts and the words that we have chosen from the lesson we are studying that week.  After we complete the ten lessons we will start over and go through the ten lessons again reviewing the same word parts, but choosing different vocabulary words that use those word parts.  The comprehensive vocabulary test will start over when we start back at lesson 1 in the vocabulary workbook.  As we are working through lessons 1-10 the students will be tested on all of the words every Wednesday until we reach 25 words. When we reach 30 words they will be tested on the last 10 words and 15 of the words that I choose from their list. This process encourages students to constantly study their words/word parts and really learn the words/word parts instead of just memorizing for a test. Please help me in trying to teach the students good study habits by encouraging them to study their words/word parts a little every night instead of cramming the night before the quiz.

Don't forget your Reading Logs due on each Friday!

Self-selected reading is just one strategy we use to improve reading comprehension. Self-selected reading is when the child chooses something that is of interest to them to read. Hopefully, if they are interested, they will read. They may read novels, short stories, articles, cartoons,or comic books. The point is...READ! The more we read the better readers we become!
