Due to my fight with cancer Mrs. Lynn Maycock will be teaching my class until January. At that time I hope to be able to return to a job that I love and miss.

Mrs. Maycock will be working closely with Mrs. Maloney, Mrs. Honeycutt, Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Brown. I am confident that all of the students will grow and learn everythng they need under her tutelage.

Of course, Mrs. Lentz will be in the classroom with her everyday. Mrs. Lentz was my assistant last year and she knows my class routines. She is wonderful and loves every student.

A few things to remember:

Class Schedule:

Everyday: recess: 10:20 - 10:50
lunch : 10:55 - 11:25

Tuesday: Guidance/Media: 2:00 - 2:40
alternating weeks

Wednesday: PE: 12:15 - 12:12:45
wear tennis shoes

Thursday: Art: 2:00 - 2:40

Friday: Music: 2:00 - 2:40

Please remember to practice the addition and subtraction facts with your students. We will soon start addition and subtraction with regrouping and knowing the facts will make those processes much easier to master. If a student has to struggle to figure out what 8 + 6 equals it really makes it more difficult to remember the steps for regrouping.

Great News!!!!
Accellerated Reader Book lists are now available on line at the Rowan Public Library website (see link below).
All you have to do is click the "Online Catalog" and then click the "AR list" tab. Find Faith Elementary and start looking up books. The list can be sorted by title, book level and author.

Snack:  We do try to have a quick snack time in the afternoons due to our early lunch. Please make sure that the snack you send is a healthy choice. Snacks high in sugar just cause a peak and then quick drop in blood sugar levels and can make it more difficult for your student to concentrate.

Recess: We go outside everyday that it is possible. We will continue to go out even as the weather gets colder. Please send a jacket with your child in cold weather for this purpose. I know it is easy to forget that they will need one because most of them just go from house to car and car to school building. However, there will be days that they WILL need a jacket to go outside and play.

AR Reading: We have 30 minutes set aside each day in class for reading and taking tests. Students are also expected to read 30 minutes at home five nights a week. Of course, I would love to know that they are reading more than the required amount. There is nothing like practice to improve any talent.

Math Facts:Second graders are expected to memorize the addition and subtraction facts up to 18. Our third grade teachers have said this is one of the most important things that we can do to help our students be successful in math next year. We will continue to work on these all year. But we can not spend all our math time on it, that is why it is very important for you to continue to work with your child at home on this important skill.
