Welcome Faith Kindergarten Class of 2008-2009!!!!

School_bus_3.gif - (4K)

We are very excited about our new class of boys and girls!  Learning is so much fun in kindergarten!  "Big" school is quite a transition for some of our students.  Our classroom rules and routines are a major focus as we begin a productive year of learning.  Please sign your child's discipline log daily.  This is our communication with you about how they are behaving at school.  We are pleased with how most of the children are adjusting and their good behavior!  Let your child know how proud you are of them when they receive a green smiley and encourage them to do better if needed.

We have started our phonics program called ZooPhonics.  The children enjoy learning about each letter sound as it goes along with a zoo animal.  Learning all of the letter sounds is our goal for first quarter.  After we accomplish this, we will have a good foundation for beginning reading.  Please practice the letter sounds with your child at home.  The names for all the Zoophonics animals, their letter sounds/signals can be found in your child's blue school notebook.

In writing, we are working on first names written with correct formation and neatly.  Please have your child practice writing their name with only the first letter capital and other letters lowercase letters.  As we progress with their writing, it is important that your child learn to write all of the letters of the alphabet with the correct formation.

We are working on some pre-writing skills to help develop their writing abilities.  We will begin by having the children draw a detailed picture with a character and a setting.  Next, they will write "sentences" about their pictures. They can tell amazing detailed sentences/stories about their drawings!  We are looking for them to become better writers through this process.  Their writing skills will develop later as they become more confident about what to write.

We are learning the numbers 0-10, positional/directional words, basic shapes, recognizing color words, and many more exciting things!
