Welcome to Mrs. Slife's and Mrs. Frederick's Website!
Happy Holidays Parents and Students! We hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season!
Students are continuing to learn individual lessons in Prescriptive Instruction based on the results of their assessment test we gave them last month.
We have gotten down to business in the fun of learning reading and math. We use a mutiple learning style approach in our classroom. This approach enables the students to discover concepts in a variety of ways.
Over the course of the year, we will utilize technology through Prescriptive Instuction, Key Skills, and internet based learning sites.
We will engage in classroom learning centers, group and individual reading with our students, with focus on high frequency words.
It is our belief that every student has the abilty to be successful!

Again this year we will be using the P.I. Learning Program. Many parents ask "what is the P.I. Learning program?"
Prescriptive Instruction:
is an intensive Web-based, intervention and instructional learning program, with a comprehensive library of K-5 lessons designed to ensure mastery of essential skills for Reading, Language Arts, and Math.
addresses the individualized needs of each student by using standard-aligned curriculums to provide an engaging, interactive, and high impact learning environment with real world, relevant examples.
assesses and determines each student's skill level and places them in their own individualized learning path.
improves reading and mathematic skills by using tutorials, practice exercises, and graded activities that allow students to learn at their own paces.
*Prescriptive Instruction’s curriculum is research-based, and aligned with state and national education standards.
"Passport to Life Long Learning"
Here are some things you can do at home to help your child improve fluency skills:
Model fluent reading. Read out loud smoothly and with expression from a newspaper article, magazine, or your child's textbook.
Be supportive and encouraging as your child reads to you.
Repeated reading. Read a passage to your child, and then ask her to repeat the reading. You might want to tape your voice and then your child's so she can listen for the difference. Have her repeat the reading until she is reading smoothly and is able to read with expression.
Choral reading. You and your child can also read passages together out loud. Reading together provides an opportunity to increase vocabulary as you discuss the meanings of words in the text.
Echo reading. Read a line or sentence from a book and then have your child read the same line, trying to "mimic" your expression and ease of reading.
Have your chlld read to you for 30 minutes at the same time everyday such as before bedtime, within the first hour you are home, 7PM everyday, in the car as you travel or maybe while you cook dinner each night.
Encourage your child to read. Suggest interesting and fun things for them to read. Then talk with them about what they read.
