Welcome to Mrs. Trexler's webpage!

Learning in Kindergarten is fun!

We are now learning phonics through a program called ZooPhonics.  The children have so much fun learning about each letter sound as it goes along with a zoo animal.  We'll learn all the letter sounds, the letter names, as well as information about each zoo animal.  Learning all the letter sounds is the foundation for good reading skills.

Each child will be assessed individually so that we may better understand the needs of your child.  We will keep you informed of any skills that your child may need extra help with at home.

Begin to practice all the letter sounds with your child at home.  Try to find words or pictures that begin with each letter.  Try to write each letter as well.  After we have accomplished learning the sounds, we will begin to become early readers!!  How exciting!!

Writing:

It is important that your child learn how to write each letter neatly and correctly. Please have your child practice writing their name and all the letters neatly and correctly at home. This is the foundation of good writing skills. We will begin our focus on drawing a detailed picture including a character and a setting.  We will try to write "sentences" along with our pictures.  We do understand that writing skills are not developed, but they can still create very exciting sentences and things about their drawings!

Math:

We are learning our numbers 1 - 10. Our goal is to read, write, and count to atleast 30 by the end of the year. Many children will be able to go beyond this goal. Strive to count and write numbers to 100!!

The more you read, the better reader you become!

Please take time to read with your child every night. This increases their reading foundation and promotes a healthy reading attitude with you at home as well. Your child will enjoy spending this quality reading experience with you.
