Mrs. Jackson's 2nd grade class
News from Room 406
The children will be receiving a reading log next week. I know that the spring time is a busy time with sports and other outside activities, but I feel that reading is extremely important. I have been talking to the students about practicing their skills. One skill that the class needs to work on is reading independently. The end of second grade, we try to slowly aid the students with becoming more independent. Every Monday your child will receive a slip where they are to read 30 minutes and tell about what they read. I would prefer that they read independently and that all 30 minutes be read at one time, if possible. Students need to train their eyes to read for longer duration's. The children can read any night as long as the log gets returned to me by Friday.
-The end of the year is quickly approaching. We will be having our last Fun Friday on May 23rd. We would like to have a special celebration for those who have been listening and working diligently at this hard time of year. We would like to have ice cream sundaes. Mrs. Bergeron and I will be buying the ice cream but we would like help with toppings.
-We also would like to send students home with a summer survival kit. We are looking for small money donations to purchase the items. Please send in all donations by May 23rd, so we have time to purchase and put things together.
-Field Day is also around the corner, it will take place June 6th, with rain date on June 9th.
** End of Year Party: June 10th will receive more information!
