Spelling/Vocabulary words are issued weekly in AIG that are relevant to the Reading material being covered. Students will receive grades in Reading and Spelling from AIG teacher. Students will receive writing practice in AIG, but will receive writing instruction in their regular classrooms
Math students are now involved in Hands On Equations, Superstars, Singapore problem solving each week.
Once programs are functional, we will be doing Star Math tests and beginning Accelerated Math.
Once student books are received, we will begin daily Singapore Math lessons in 4th and 5th grades.
I am looking to purchase several class sets of books. We could also really use an area rug for our meetings. If you are willing to help with this, please contact me.
Just a reminder to parents that AIG students should be doing a minimum of 1/2 hour homework per evening Monday through Thursday. Most all of the work for the week is due on Fridays, including study guides, journal entries, hobby packs. Students need to be working toward being responsible, independent and continuous learners. We should all be working away from external controls, and toward the student ownership and pride in their own work!
Ask your AIG students what their thoughts are on eternal life! What about growing up? What about loyalty and friendship? What are their ideas on community improvement projects? You should open a world of discussion if you ask some of these questions!
Parents are strongly encouraged to check the student agendas each night for assignments and important notes from school. ALSO, please look over your student's completed work before signing off on the agenda. This increases the student's awareness of his or her accountability to both parent and teacher.
Want to improve your learning? Remember the importance of STUDYING and doing your work carefully and thoroughly, and making up missed work when you are absent. Have a PLAN FOR SUCCESS and stick to it!You CANdo it!
Parents can communicate daily with the teachers through thestudent agendas, which should be reviewed and checked EVERY DAY for any news and notes. You are most welcome to come by for a quick chat, make an appointment for conference, or write me a note at any time. You can also leave a phone message, and I will get back to you (Please understand that my ability to get to a phone during the day is very limited :) as I am busy with the students! )
I look forward to working with you towards our common goals of success for your child!
Student papers and other announcements and points of interest will be sent home WEEKLY in the AIG PACKETS, which should be reviewed, signed, and returned to school with the student on MONDAYS.
CURRICULUM: We will be following the NC Standard Course of Study (the weblink is below through nc publicschools.org)
We will integrate the use of technology on a regular basis in STARMath, Mathfacts, weblinks, SUPERSTARS, and Accelerated Math. Parents : look for periodic reports on your child's progress in the AIG PACKETS. HOMEWORK can be expected in math 3-4 times per week. In addition, we should STUDY for exams. I will be discussing study techniques with the students in class and ask that parents encourage students to study the material. Always try your best, and be persistent toward your goals! You CAN do it!.
