Welcome to Health Sciences at West Rowan High School
Year 2008-2009
Courses include: Health Team Relations, Allied Health Science I , Allied Health Science II and Medical Science II
In these classes, you will be introduced to the wonderful world of health care. We will study various health careers, history of health care, medical terminology, ethics and legal responsibilities, human anatomy, body systems and its function and much, much more.
In the AHS II class, the students learn CPR, basic first aid and nursing assistant skills such as bathing patients, handwashing, body mechanics, taking vital signs and many other skills to mention a few. This class includes classwork and clinical work at various health care facilities such as nursing homes, doctor offices, and the hospital. After passing this course, students are eligible to sit for the state test which certifies them as certified nursing assistants.
We are offering Medical Science II. This is a honors course and you must have a 3.0 GPA or greater to take it. This course is for students who are definitely pursuing a 4 year or more degree at a university with a career goal in the medical field other than nursing. This class also has clinical work at health care facilities.
For AHS II and MS II, you will need to purchase a uniform, white shoes, nametag and a watch with a second hand. We will order most of this from school. The uniform cost is approximately $24.00 plus the cost of the nametag. The white shoes and watch should be purchased on your own.

HOSA CLUB
Hosa (Health Occupation Students of America) is offered this year. This is a great way for Health Occupation students to apply what they have learned in class as well as give back to the community. We will have a blood drive again this year which will help save many lives. I look forward to working with each of you in our club. We will start our meetings soon after school begins.
