Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year!
It is going to be a super year and I am looking forward to getting to know each of you.
SUPPLIES WE NEED: Please send the 4th grade supplies with your child as soon as possible. We will begin success on the very first day and it is so important that the children feel prepared.***Please send pictures that show family, friends, trips, pets and hobbies. These will be cut to fit on the cover of our writing journals.
Science: We will begin first quarter with a unit on Healthy Living. We will study nutrients, vitamins, minerals and how to stay healthy.
Social Studies: We will begin our study of North Carolina with the development of geography skills. This will cover landforms, maps, and regions of N.C.
Reading: Students should be reading 30 minutes each night. Please put this information on the agenda's bottom section each day . We will begin the year with finding out at what level each child is reading. We will work in small groups and focus on comprehension, vocabulary, reading skills and strategies.
Math: We will jump right into math skills with the reteaching and extension of place value, addition, subtraction
Writing: Our writing program will begin with the creation of personal journals and reading examples of excellent narratives. We must always focus on the details.
Tuesdays: Check out all the work your students bring home on Tuesdays in their red folder. Please sign any work that needs signatures and return to school promptly.
Student Behavior Cards should be initialed daily, signed weekly and sent back the following day. The letters earned on the behavior report may keep them from attending PBS activities. The Student Behavior cards will be kept in the agendas for daily reference.
Positive Behavior for September: Students will participate in the special activity based on the number of letters earned during August and September.
Please feel free to contact me via phone, email or letter. I look forward to working with each and every one of you for the success of your child.
