Littlejohn's Spring News

"True faith and courage are like a kite - an opposing wind raises it highter."

Language Arts: We made it through the State Writing Test!!  I'm proud of all the children.  They all made a lot of effort to write.  I'm looking forward to hearing some great news! In our writing block now we are reading, writing, and judging poems. We are on Theme 5 - Heroes in Reading.  We have read about MLK, Harriet Tubman, and Gloria Estefan. We  will finish the theme up with Lou Gehrig by the end of April.

Math: Fractions are on our minds.  Keep practicing the multiplication facts with your children.  Knowing them is a must as we study reducing fractions, improper fractions, mixed numerals, equivalent fractions, and adding/subtracting with like denominators.  This will lead us right into decimals and then probability.

Social Studies: The study of the Life in the Coastal Plain Region has taken on another aspect.  Your child is doing a long term project of researching "Life in the Coastal Plain".  We are collaborating with Mrs. Drye and Mr. Moose to utilize the technology.  Your child has chosen one place to visit in the Coastal Plain.  They will calculate how much money they need/spend, how far/how long it takes to get there, and many other things that involve visiting somewhere as a tourist.

Special Notes:

Our "Spring Fling" is coming up soon. Please take some time and bring in some books for our "Book Walk" activity.  This will be held in our room.  Instead of getting a cake when your lucky number is called you will get to choose a book.  The books you collect should be a wide range from K-5th grade reading level.  Picture books and chapter books do will do fine too.  Also, our class basket theme is "Beach Fun" for our school silent auction.  Please send in anything that pertains to beach activity.....beach ball, shovel/bucket, beach towel, suntan lotion, castle molds, etc..... Thanks for all of your help to make this a super first Spring Fling!!
