   WELCOME!

Hills' Happenings

Fourth Grade

Welcome to the wonderful world of learning, Fourth Grade Overton Explorers!  We will be respectful, responsible, and reflective.  As a consequence, this will be a memorable year for each of us.

Thanks for visiting our web page!  Below are a few of the learning experiences that will occupy our time.

Math:   Beginning with place value, we will build understanding of             how vital a part math plays in most areas of our lives.  We            will begin Accelerated Math shortly since the Star Testing            results are calculated.

Reading: Theme One  deals with journeys.

We will focus on a selection, such as "Akiak."  Along with the selection, there will be leveled readers support it.  Small groups will be a BIG part of our learning experience.

    AR (Accelerated Reader)

Goals will be set according to results of the Star Reading             test.  Please remember to read each night for at least 20             minutes.  Test as you finish reading a book.  Be sure to log         in all of the data.

Spelling:  High Frequency words will be stressed along with the     weekly spelling list.  Each student should have a list in their         agenda.  The entire list is posted as a visual personal                 dictionary in our classroom, and each will soon be provided a     laminated folder as a personal desk dictionary.

Homework:

    Nightly....read at least 20 minutes.

Usually--Spelling and Math homework (limited amounts)

Writing: Personal narratives will be a focus early in the year.

Other types of writing will also be stressed.

Science: A look at "Animal Adaptations" is on the way!  We'll

also focus on rocks and minerals, electricity and magnetism,

and nutrition over the course of the year.

Social Studies: Wow!  A chance to study our very own state!

It's a wonderful place to live and learn!!!!

Remember!   Read 30 minutes at home daily.  Reading helps         so much in the writing process, and it develops fluency as         well as comprehension!

We have a wonderful group of students in our room.  Let's make it our best year ever!!!!
