Mrs. Jackson's Kindergarten

Thank you for visiting my web page. I hope that you will visit often throughout the year. I update the page weekly with important information.
Our field trip to Horizon's Unlimited was a wonderful experience.  We ended up taking a bus instead of walking due to the cold weather.  Your child was able to learn about indians and how they lived long ago, the stars, our senses, and the jungle.  When we returned to school, they wrote wonderful stories about their favorite part of our trip.

We will continue to work on writing real stories about our lives.  These stories need to include detail in the picture as well as in their writing.  We will work on putting spaces between our words, beginning the sentence/s with capital letters, and including the ending mark (period or exclaimation mark).  One of the goals during our writing time is that the children learn to work independently.  I am not looking for perfection, although I should see progress as I compare the pieces they are writing now and what they were writing a few months ago.  I encourage the children to sound out words they don't know how to spell.  The Popcorn Words should be spelled correctly.

This week in Language we will finish up learning about the letter Ii.  Next week (beginning Jan. 28th) we will begin learning about the letter Ll.

In Math, we will begin learning numbers 12-20.  Most of the students are now able to recognize, write, and count objects through 12.  If your child is still struggling with numbers 0-12 they will be getting extra assistance in the classroom help them learn these numbers.

Each Tuesday and Thursday your child will have homework. Tuesday night I will send home a Language sheet and Thursday night the homework will be a Math sheet.
Thank you for the support you have given me this year already by having your child well rested and prepared for school each day. I hope you have a wonderful week!
